SECTION RESULTS FOR STATE TOURNAMENT
1978 through 2024
The State Tournament was discontinued in 1932 after high school authorities ruled that the season was too long.
In the
early '70's, as interest grew, bringing back State Tournament was discussed and then in 1974, a tentative plan was
formatted by Kurt Beyer that would include all sections.
In 1974, the "Top Eight" tournament was created, inviting the top
teams to compete to find the "best" team in NY. It lasted two years. In 1975, other intersectional games began involving
Sectional Champions and in 1977, the Southeast Regional Tournament was played, pairing Sectional Champions by class.
In
1978 the State Tournament as we know it was reinstated and continues to this day. In 2020, the tournament was cancelled during the
Regional Tournaments due to an outbreak of the Coronavirus.
