This Tournament which decides the Overall State Championship and includes teams from the NYSPHSAA, PSAL, CHSAA and the NYSAIS was
founded in 1979. It was introduced as the "Super 16 Tournament", then became the Overall State Championships, and finally The Federation
Tournament of Champions in 1987.
The first tournament in 1979 was played in the Onondaga War Memorial in Syracuse, the second
at Rochester War Memorial and then moved to its longtime home at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
In 2011, the tournament moved
from Glens Falls to the Times Union Center in Albany. In 2015, the tournament was played at SUNY Albany and returned to the Times Union Center in
2016. In 2017, the tournament moved back to Glens Falls, now known as the Cool Insuring Arena. In 2020 the tournament was scheduled
to be played at Fordham University until it was canceled due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
In 2024 the Federation announced it
was discontinuing the tournament for financial reason. We’re not sure if it will return.
